EFIWE NEWS: UIDLC Installs CCTV In Examination Halls At CBT Centre, Sasha | READ!

As one of the missions of the University Of Ibadan to produce graduates who are worthy in character and learning, Distance Learning Center of the University installs Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) Security Cameras to monitor activities especially Examinations held in the Halls at the CBT Centre, Sasha, Ibadan.

In a press statement received via UE official mail, it reads;

EXAMINATION INTEGRITY:
UIDLC INSTALLS CCTV SURVEILLANCE CAMERAS

One of the missions of the Univerisity of Ibadan is to produce graduates who are worthy in character and learning. This is the two wings upon which credible leaders are groomed in an institution of repute like the University of Ibadan. The Distance Learning Centre (DLC) being a key subset of the university is committed to this ideal hence, the DLC management drive the centre's academic activities toward its fulfillment.

Examination integrity is a core part of the repositioning agenda of the Oyesoji Aremu led administration. The drive is to fulfill one of the wings of the UI mission stated above - worthy in learning. DLC learners are not excluded from this. This is what spurred the DLC management to install Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) Security Cameras in the DLC Computer-Based Testing (CBT) Centre.

The CCTV cameras are specially designed for the purpose of monitoring activities in the four halls of the CBT centre. They also serve as surveillance cameras for security purposes in the centre.

It is worth noting that the three halls of the Centre of 500 capacity each have had computer systems installed in them with full networking. For the first time in the history of the centre, all the 2016/2017 first semester examinations held on the DLC facility. This necessitated this laudable initiative.

It is unarguably true that with the CCTV cameras, examination invigilation would become seamless. Also, examination malpractice cases would now become verifiable at the Student Disciplinary Committee (SDC).

The post-UTME tests for prospective UI students held on Friday 20 and Saturday 21 October, 2017 was a good opportunity to test run these devices, with the 4,000 candidates allocated to the DLC CBT centre for the two days. In a chit chat with the Director, DLC, he noted that the installation was only a phase of assuring examination integrity among DLC learners. He further submitted that more strategic initiatives would be unfolded in due time.
