EFIWE NEWS: Faculty Of Education, UI In Conjunction With TRCN Performs Induction Ceremony | READ! @kingbiodun_

The Faculty of Education, University of Ibadan in conjunction with Teacher's Registration Council of Nigeria on Tuesday 14th of February 2017, performed the Induction Ceremony for B.Ed, PGDE, M.Ed & Ph.D into the Teaching Profession.

 The induction ceremony on Tuesday at Faculty of Education Large Lecture Theatre, University of Ibadan, had in attendance Dean of Students' Affairs, University of Ibadan, Prof. A.T.P Ajuwape, Deputy Dean of Students Affairs, Dr. Adekeye Abiona, Dean faculty of Education, Prof. M.K Akinsola, Dean Faculty of Arts, Prof E.B Ekanola, Registrar/Chief Executive Teacher's registration Council of Nigeria, Prof. Josiah Ajiboye, Prof. Esther Oduolowu, Chairperson Faculty Of Education induction committee, Dr. M.O Ogundokun, Dr. A.O Ayeni, Dr. I.O Oladipo, Dr. M.O Alegbeleye and many other dignitaries & Creme-de-la-creme of the University community and the society at large.

 The Chairperson Faculty Of Education induction committee, Prof. Esther Oduolowu in her welcome address admonished the inductees to be proud of their profession as they've been equipped with knowledge, skills and values which will help in performing their role of inculcating quality education to the youngsters. She explicitly explained that Nigeria is currently battling with a lot of problems such as unemployment, corruption, insecurity and inadequate Social amenities. She opined that proper Education through well trained teacher can win the battle. She furthermore congratulated the inductees and officially welcomed them to the Teaching Profession, she wished them a meaningful and fulfilling career.

*The Dean of Faculty of Education, Prof. M.K Akinsola in his own address*, expressed his profound Gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor, University of Ibadan Prof. Idowu Olayinka for all his efforts at providing an enabling environment both during the session and also during the Teaching practice exercise inspite of the scarce resources, He congratulated the 2017 inductees for the opportunity they have attained to be trained, qualified and certificated as Professional teachers, He enjoined them all to exhibit good character always, thereby showing good examples to students and continuously updating their knowledge in different areas. He asserted that Faculty of Education, University of Ibadan has not sharked in its responsibility of production of high level manpower in the field of Teaching Profession in Nigeria since 1960's because of the untiring efforts and commitment of members and support enjoyed from the University authorities.

In the Vice-chancellor's address Prof. Idowu Olayinka, ably delivered and presented by Dean, Faculty of Arts Prof. E.B Ekanola, He stated that the University has added another feather to its cap, especially in its duty of producing requisite teaching manpower for Education sector of Nigeria, He furthermore asserted that the University is happy to be part of the historic event that involved the public declaration of the inductees to make the Teaching Profession a pride of all stakeholders.

In the address delivered by the Registrar/Chief Executive Teachers registration Council of Nigeria, Prof. Josiah Ajiboye, He admonished the inductees, he stated that the Teaching Profession has moved from didactic to pragmatic where every teacher needs to learn, unlearn and relearn. He said in all sense of modesty that teaching is a noble profession as it is the only profession that crystallizes the successful outcome of other professions. He appealed to the inductees of today not to be BBC (Born before computer) but rather digital teachers that interact and make the world a global village.

The Quondam President, Nigerian Universities Education Student's Association [Nuesa UI Chapter] also one of the inductees, Com. Akinwande Kazeem Abiodun Kazzy expressed his sincere appreciation to all the guests present at the event, the representative of the VC, Deans, all HODs present, parents and Well wishers. He later admonished and congratulated all the inductees, He advised the inductees to put into practice all what they have been taught to bring a real change in the country.

It should be noted that Certification is a major yardstick used to draw a line between the professionally trained personnel and those not trained. According to The TRCN Act 31 of 1993 section 17(2) makes its clear that with the commencement of the Act, any individual teaching, using the identity of a teacher or earning the reward of a teacher must be duly registered. The essence of professionalisation is to facilitate the upliftment of teachers’ status and dignity as professionals.
