EFIWE GISTS: The Road To Miss Oyo State 2016 Part 1

The biggest beauty contest in Oyo State and one of the biggest in South- West Nigeria, MISS OYO STATE BEAUTY PAGEANT, 2016 edition took place yesterday, 2nd January, 2017 at the Banquet Hall, Premier Hotel, Mokola Hill, Ibadan, Oyo State.
Oyo State, a paragon of tourism known for her robust cultural heritage and home to a number of firsts in the nation such as housing the first suspended lake in Nigeria, the first state to have a Local Government Secretariat, the first state to house a 25-storey building(Cocoa House), home to the first tertiary institution in the nation(The premier University of Ibadan) amidst others.
The highly anticipated event known for its high standards and fair judgement had 10 of the prettiest and gorgeous beauties in the land. The panel of judges comprised of experienced industry experts and reputable men and women of integrity namely; Philip Areo (MD, UI Ventures), Hon. Lanre Jinaad (MDCEO, Bluegill Resource Ltd), Omotosho Oluwafemi (Rep. Pacesetter Transport Services, Oyo State Govt.), Dr. (Mrs) Annah Afolabi and Oloye ‘Lekan Alabi (AGBA AKIN OLUBADAN OF IBADANLAND) – who served as the chief judge for the night. Asides the pageant, it was also an evening to recognize and hand out awards to outstanding public office holders, media houses and distinguished personnel per their level of excellence.

The Panel of Judges

Isaac Brown D’Mayor played host to a tonne of dignitaries – Oyo State government public office holders, politicians, captains of industry and celebrities alike, a few notable personalities spotted at the prodigiously attended event include but not limited to- Hon. Michael Adeyemo (Speaker, Oyo State House of Representatives) duly represented by Hon. Joshua Oyebamiji, Dr. Azeez Popoola (Oyo State Commissioner for health), Dr. Son Bashorun (Chairman, FoodCo, Ibadan), Hon. Chief (Dr.) Temitope Olatoye Sugar (Chairman, House Committee on Urban and Regional Planning, Lagelu Akinyele Constituency and Coordinating Chairman, Federal Representatives Committee for Miss Oyo State), Hon. Saheed Alaran.

Others include, reigning Miss Personality South-West Nigeria, Queen Adebukola Ogunjobi, Dr. Yinka Ayefele (Chairman, FRESH FM, Ibadan), Otunba Deji Osibogun (Chairman, SPACE FM, Ibadan), Wale Ojo Lanre (Journalist extraordinaire, Nigerian Tribune), National Media Merit Award Winner 2016, Dare Adekambi and many others.
Cnmesiter, the official web-magazine for Miss Oyo State 2016 was on ground to cover events as they occurred. The girls stepped out in gorgeous traditional attires, evening gowns and convenient recreational wears.
Meister Republic top act, Xtreme had the crowd on their feet with a mind-blowing and energetic performance alongside a few other side attractions.

To wrap up the long night, Hon. Sugar was called upon to announce to the suspense filled audience who the judges had considered the winner, but before then, dear readers, let’s meet the girls and see what they had to say when we had a brief chat..
Contestant 1.
Olowokere Yinka Wilson
A graduate of Music Technology from The Polytechnic, Ibadan. She’s 20 years old and would love to stop domestic violence amongst women and children of the state if crowned queen.
Contestant 2.
Ayomide Ubeku
A human resource management graduate from the University of Lagos, Lagos. She’ll like to run a skills acquisition project to aid Oyo State youths with vocational skills.
Contestant 3.
Salahudeen Oluwakemi Olawunmi.
She’s 20 years old, studied Business Administration at the Polytechnic Ibadan. She says it’ll be a great privilege if she wins and will try to help orphanages in terms of providing adequate health care and food.
Contestant 4.
Akindele Justina Temitayo.
Studied Office technology and management at the Polytechnic Ibadan, 19 years old and if crowned queen, she’d run an awareness program on HIV/AIDS. She is the current Miss Valentine.
Contestant 5.
Ogundola Olajumoke Elizabeth
A 300L student of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) studying Biology. She is 19years old and if crowned queen will empower youths with handiwork in order for them to generate income for themselves as well as other dependency projects. Jumoke is current Miss Campus South West Popularity.
Contestant 6.
Bello Temitope Elizabeth
She is 20years old. She studied Economics at Carisca University, Cotonou. She says if crowned queen, she will help the less privileged and orphanages with survival incentives like food and clothing.
Contestant 7.
Afolabi Abimbola
The 26-year old damsel is the current Miss UI. A finalist of the same institution, studying Psychology. She says she will promote entrepreneurship through seminars, will also start a green revolution movement thereby mitigating global warming as well as bring hope to the less privileged in her own little way.
Contestant 8.
Orogun Esther Olamide
300L undergraduate studying History at the University of Ibadan. she is 20 years old. If crowned queen, she says she’ll setup up a skills acquisition center  and a fashion school focused on taking youths off the streets and creating jobs.
Contestant 9.
Shadunke Oluwaseyi
The 20-year old beauty is an Accounting graduate of Zenith University College, Accra Ghana. With the help of Oyo State Government, she reportedly will organize a sensitization and advocacy program for the youths, to promote entrepreneurship and foster unity.
Contestant 10.
Ilesanmi Justina Ifeoluwa
She schools at the University of Ibadan, 400L Psychology, 21years old. If she becomes queen, she will partner with organsations like Oyo SACA (an organization that fights against HIV/AIDS) and NGOs like Association for Reproductive and Family Health (ARFH) in the fight against HIV, reproductive health issues, rape, abortion, female circumcision, indecent dressing, child abuse and gender discrimination in Oyo State.
After all done and done, the runner-ups were as follows;
3rd Runner-Up (4th Position) – Bello Temitope Elizabeth (Contestant 6)
2nd Runner-Up (3rd Position) – Shadunke Oluwaseyi (Contestant 9)
1st Runner-Up (2nd Position) – Ogundola Olajumoke Elizabeth (Contestnat 5}
Emerging the winner, MISS OYO STATE 2016 –Queen ABIMBOLA AFOLABI (Contestant 7)
